Park and Recreation Commission Minutes
Special Meeting
Tuesday, November 8, 1977
Chqnhassen Elementary School
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Joe Betz, at 7:10 p.m.
Members present were: Pat Boyle, Francis Callahan, Mary MJehlhausen,
Phyllis Pope and Denis Stedman.
Mr. Callahan introduced Mr. Jack Ernst, who takes care of the warming
house for the hockey rinks. Mr. Ernst related his feelings on the
skating rinks. He strongly bel ieves in skating as a healthy pasttime
for our children and families. When the weather is right, the two
rinks are busy until lights are turned 'off at 9:00 p.m.
A motion was made by Phyllis Pope to accept the minutes of the November 1,
1977 meeting. The motion was seconded by Pat Boyle. Motion carried.
Western Hills Park
Phyllis pope made a motion that, unless a cheaper bulldozer can be found
~~ by the end of this week, we should hire the $35.00 per hour man. The
motion was seconded by Pat Boyle. Motion carried.
Joe Betz recommended that we have a written plan of Western Hills Park
for the bulldozer man to follow.
Phyllis Pope made a motion to make a change in the landscape architect's
drawing of Western Hills Park as indicated on the sheet attached to the
drawing. Mary Muehlhausen seconded the motion. Motion carried.
There was a discussion on planning for some type of parking lot for the
park. Pat Boyle and Phyllis Pope will follow up on this.
Illumination of Hockey Rinks
Fran Callahan explained that since most of the bids were coming back
over $5,000 that we would now have to advertise for the bids on the
wiring and upgrading of the service.
There was a discussion on the price difference between buying two new
metal poles or using the two tennis court poles and light fixtures and
having them moved from the skating rinks to the tennis courts in the spring.

Phyllis Pope made a motion that:
1. We use the eight tennis court lights for the hockey rinks--
to be moved to the tennis courts in the spring.
2. We temporarily use the two metal poles from the tennis
courts for the hockey rinks.
3. The bid should include that the poles and light fixtures be
portable.

4. We choose bids for
a. installation of 400 amp service into the warming house.
b. installation of the pole.
c. electrical installation to the pole.
5. Electrical underground wiring Should ~e PVC.
Monies should be taken from the following accounts:
1. 4701-Land Purchasing and Improvement-Dept. 143-park Maintenance.
2. 4701-Land Purchasing and Improvement-Dept. 145-Recreation
1977 and 1978 money.
3. Proposed Fencing for Little League Ball Field at Lake Ann Park.
,~ Review of the budget indicates that these accounts may provide sufficient
funds to cover projected project cost, provided that these funds can be
reallocated from the previously planned projects.
The motion was seconded by Denis Stedman. Motion carried.
Oenis Stedman moved to adjourn the meeting at 9:30 p.m. Mary Muehlhausen
seconded the motion. Motion carried:'
