PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES
August 3, 1971 - 8:00 p.m.
Chanhassen Village Hall
Members Present: Arnold Weimerskirch, Sally deLancey, Bob Fayfield,
Conrad Fiskness and Gladys McCary.
Members Absent; Denis Stedman, Dave Wilson
The meeting was called to order by Chairman, Arnold Weimerskirch.
MINUTES: A motion was made by Conrad Fiskness and seconded by
Gladys McCary that the minutes of the meeting of July 20, ~97l,
be approved. Motion carried.
LAKE ANN PARK:
PROGRESS: The O.E.O. boys have been tiling area to the lake and
have mowed the entire area.
Most of the earth moving is done. Two of the ballfields have black
dirt on them and the third one will soon have dirt.
There are some telephone poles there.

TENNIS COURTS: Sally deLancey suggested we install some temporary
tennis courts in the western most parking lot at Lake Ann. Discussion
followed. Sally will contact Brauer and get an estimate of cost
for two double courts on a temporary basis and two double courts
on a permanent basis. She will also check some other Municipalities
who have courts for cost.
REGULA~IONS: Bob Fayfield is making up a brochure on Lake Ann Park
and would like some suggestions as to important regulations to be
included. Some of his ideas and members suggestions were as follows:
1. Hours for the park and beach.
2. NO pets.
3. Use trash containers.
4. No open fires. Fire containers or grills permitted.
5. Swim at your own risk.
Members will be thinking about regulations and suggestions will be
made at later dates. No action taken.
There was a general discussion on snowmobiling in the Park and
various members will contact different Villages and check their
rules and regulations.
WALKATHONE: The Park and Recreation Commission would like to
see the Jaycee's Walkathone done about two weeks after the black-
top is put on the roads.
BIKE TRAIL: The Park and Recreation Commission would like to
look into the possibility of putting in a bike trail on the north
side of Highway 5 to the park site where old Highway 5 used to be.

CHANHASSEN ESTATES 2ND ADDITION: Arnold Weimerskirch read the
follow~ng options presented by Bob Mason and the Park and
Recreation's comments:
Option 1 - 5 year option to make improvements on Outlot B.

We agree with this mption with the understanding
that any improvements under this mption would be
done within the ~ramework of Park and Recreation
Commission plans for that area and at no cost to
the Village.
Option 2 - 3 year option to dredge a channel throught Outlot C.
We agree with this option with the stipulation
that no motorized boats be allowed to use the
channel and that the Park and Recreation Commission
be allowed to take part in deciding on the location
of the channel. The Village should also have
safeguards against excessive costs to maintain the
channel.

There was discussion on Outlot C and Councilman Wolf's motion
at the August 2, Council Meeting, authorizing the Park and
Recreation Commission to initiate study with Eden prairie and
the State Department of Conservation to jointly prohibit
motorized boats on Rice March Lake. Conrad Fiskness will
contact Eden prairie and Arnold Weimerskirch will contact the
State Department of Conservation.

General discussion on Outlot B and what should be developed there.
Suggestions:

2. Tot Lot
3. Pavillion
Conrad Fiskness will layout a development plan and submit it back
to the Park and Recreation Commission.
SUMMER RECREATION PROGRAM: Gladys McCary will contact Jim Shermock
and request'thathe'submit a report on the Summer Recreation
Program at the next meeting.
WINTER RECREATION PROGRAM: The Commission should start thinking
of a Director before the next meeting.
BUDGET: General discussion on the 1972 Budget.
SENIOR CITIZENS: Conrad Fiskness moved and Sally deLancey seconded
to buy a table for the Senior Citizens to replace the broken one.
Motion carried.

MISCELLANEOUS: Conrad Fiskness reported that the Riley-Purgatory
Creek Watershed District is preparing a detailed Flood Plain
Identification Map. This map will also identify the Village
open space and the Park and Recreational areas. When the fi~st
draft if prepared, we will be given an opportunity to view it.
BERKEY DEVELOPMENT: Bob Fayfield reported on his meeting with
Mr. Berkey. Mr. Berkey expressed his desire to preserve Lake
Minnewashta. There was a general discussion on the Berkey Sketch
Plan.
A motion was made by Bob Fayfield and seconded by Gladys McCary
recommending approval of the final plat and sketch plan provided
that:
a. sufficient open space be set aside and suitable play
areas and field game areas be made.
b. the outlot be preserved in a natural state.
Motion carried.
A motion was made by Gladys McCary and seconded by Conrad Fiskness
to adjourn. Motion carried.
