PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MINUTES - November 16,1971
Chanhassen Village Hall
8:00 p.m. .
Members Present: Arnold Weimerskirch, Conrad Fiskness, Dave Wilson,
Bob Fayfield, Gladys McCary, Sally DeLancey. ,Absent: Denis Stedman
Visitors: Fritz Coulter, Steve Wolf
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Arnold Weimerskirch.
MINUTES: A motion was made Bob Fayfield and seconded by Conrad
Fiskness to approve the Minutes of the November 2, 1971, meeting
with the following amendment:
LAKE COMMITTEE STATUS: The Boat Committee will be invited
to the December 7, 1971, meeting instead of the November
16, 1971, meeting.
Motion carried.
WINTER RECREATION PROGRAM: Gladys McCary gave a report on the
adult program and the Saturday morning children pegram.
Fritz Coulter has volunteered to help out on the Saturday morning
program.

NEW PROSPECTIVE PARK AND RECREATION MEMBERS: The following
candidates will be invited to attend the December 7, 1971, meeting
.to observe. Ken pung, Charles Hirt, Fritz Coulter, Jan Hill,
Bill Hellendrung, Helen Morrisson, Kay Kanter, Don Slathar, Harvey
Will, Rosemary Will, Mrs. Lano, Mrs. Funk, Diana Scheff.
NEXT MEETING: The Boat Committee will be invited to the December
7, 1971, meeting at 9:30 p.m. Patty Ryan who will be directing
the skating program will be invited to the December 7, 1971,meeting
at 8:30 p.m.
TEEN COMMITTEE: Steve Wolf explained what the Teen Committee
has been doing and that they will be selling fire wood this
week-end.
TREE PLANTING: 'Conrad Fiskness reported that the trees that were
planted last year are growing well.
There was much discussion on what trees should be ordered and
planted at Lake Ann and various other sites in the Village.
It was decided to order the following trees.
700 Colorado Blue Spruce
200 Poplar
400 Maple
200 Green Ash
100 Black Walnut

SKATING RINKS: The following areas were discussed as possible
sites for skating rinks: .
Minnewashta Manor - Pond
Minnewashta Heights Park Site - Small Pond
East side Lotus Lake - North Bay near Sandy Hook Road
Lake Riley - pot hole

North end Lotus Lake by the horseshoe.
Lake Minnewashta by Leaches Resort.

Sally deLancey reported that she has talked to the Mrs. Jaycees
and they are requesting that the recreation rink be kept cleaner
and smoother this year. Also that the Village put a flood light
on the pole by the warming house so the recreational rink will be
lit better. .
WALKWAYS UNDER HIGHWAYS: The Commission feels that planning
for this in the future is essential now. The Commission would
like to Planning Commission to be advised of the way they feel
and would like to have this included in the generalized guide
plan. .
NEW PLANNER FUNCTIONS: The following. are things the Park and
Recreation Commission would like the planner to look into.and
plan for:
1. the barn at Lake Ann.
2. the walkways
3. next phase of development at Lake Ann
4. development of parks, etc., in future populated areas.

MISCELLANEOUS:

BOOKS: A motion was made by Sally deLancey and seconded
by David Wilson to buy the following books:
1. (680) Outdoor Skating Rinks with Natural Ice - $.50
2. (694) Federal Assistance for Recreation and Parks - $20.01
3. (MA-83) The Use of Park and Recreation Consultants -$2.00
Motion approved.
A motion was made by Conrad Fiskness and seconded by Bob Rffield
to adjourn. Motion approved.
