PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
January 23, 1969, 7:30 P.M.
The fOllowing members were present: Ed Seim, Sally deLancey,
Harvey Will, Steve Wolf, Merv Eisel, and Berk Rodgers.
Visitors: Mr. Fjare of Brauer Associates, Mrs. McCary as a
potential Commission member. Council ~as represented by
Councilman Bennyhoff, Planning Commission by Bob Scholer.
Adolph Tessness representing teenagers interested in having a
teen center. Teenagers present were: Steve Yanisch, Russ
Pauly, Jim Heimerl, Terry Yanisch, Dave Pauly, Mark Windschitl,
Earl Pauly, Brenda Windschitl, Barb Yanisch, Sue Beckstrom.
TEEN CENTER: Mr. Tessness represented the teenagers in their
request for a teen center since the "Way Under" is no longer open.
They expressed a strong desire for a place to go after school and
on weekends. The teenagers agreed the kind of place they wanted
should be in town or centrally located, not fancy and with good
lighting, pool table, ping pong table, perhaps a sandwich and
coke machine. Someplace where they would not feel obligated to
spend money. ThBy would prefer records to a live band. They
would like regular hours, weekdays from after school until 10:00
p.m., Fridays and Saturdays open until 11:00 p.m., Sundays until
8:00 p.m. They would prefer to have a membership for just Chanhassen
teenagers with a one guest allowance. They felt it would be good
to set up their own board members with age limits being from 7th
through 12th grades.
~ Sally deLancey moved and Steve Wolf seconded that Park and Recreation
set up a committee to work with a teenage representative to try
to solve their problem. Motion carried.
Mr. Tessness and all the teenagers represented at this meeting
agreed to work together. Mr. Tessness will report on February
6th of any progress made.
PARK PLAN: Mr. Fjare made another presentation of the Park Plan
up to date. The four major points of discussion were:
1) The status of Lake Ann.
2) Land use in the Southwestern quadrant near Jonathan.
3) Status of Lake Susan if Lake Ann is not available.
4) Philosophy of obtaining entire lake.
After discussing acquisition of Lake Ann property and alternatives
Harvey Will made a motion to present our plan to Mr. Lybeck within
the next two weeks to determine what the possibilities are of
using his property for Park use. Motion seconded by Steve Wolf.
Motion carried.
Harvey Will, Steve Wolf, and Ed Seim agreed to present out plan
to Mr. Lybeck.

A motion was made by Sally deLancey and seconded by Berk Rodgers
that Brauer Associates begin to explore other alternatives in the
Park Plan including developing artificial area. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Steve Wolf and seconded by Berk Rodgers to

form a Planning Committee consisting of Park and Recreation commissiol~
members and Planning Commission members to establish a liaison
between the two commissions. Motion carried.
Steve Wolf and Berk Rodgers were assigned as liaison to Planning
Commission.
WINTER PROGRAM: Sally deLancey reported guitar lessons will begin
at the Chanhassen Village Hall basement on Saturday, February 1st
from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. The class will be limited to 15. Miss
Rosemary Oaks will be the instructor.
A motion was made by Sally deLancey and seconded by Berk Rodgers
that the fee for the series of guitar lessons be $10.00 per student.
Motion carried.
ART AND PHOTO CONTEST: It was suggested that because no money
prizes would be given at the Art Fair, recognition to Photo .
Contest winners should be ribbons and a blown-up picture to
possibly be displayed at the Village Hall. Tentative entry dates
for the Photo Contest are April 7 and 8 at the Village Hall.
Tentative date for the Art Fair is Mother's Day weekend.
