This revision would repeal the provision requiring an observer in the boat for water skiers, and default to the state standard of allowing either an observer or wide-angle rear view mirror. In light of this review, I am approving these surface use restrictions as required by state law and rule. If you have further questions, please feel free to continue to work through our boat and water safety coordinator, Kim Elverum, at 651-296-0905. Sincerely, ,LJ~. I am writing to let you know that the City and MnDOT will be looking at ways to provide safer crossings of Highway 5 while the pedestrian bridge is closed due to construction of the water treatment plant. These steps may include the lengthening of pedestrian crossing times at the affected intersections. City staff will also make it a priority to keep the trails plowed at these intersections this winter. The City is planning to open the pedestrian bridge as soon as the water treatment plant site is safe for the public. We all hope that this will occur prior to the completion of the treatment plant, which is scheduled for December 2006. If you have further questions or concerns regarding the water treatment plant or the pedestrian crossing on Highway 5, please contact City Engineer Paul Oehme at 952-227-1169 or email himatpoehme@ci.chanhassen.mn.us.
