The purpose of the notification is to allow adjacent local government units and school districts time to request copies of proposed amendments so that they can offer their comments prior to final action by the community. The Metropolitan Council's Local Planning Handbook advises that such notifications must occur 60 days before the plan amendment is sent to the Council for its review.
