2006 February Festival Evaluation
Food and Drink Concessions
The Chanhassen Lions served and operated the concessions again at this year's
festival. The weather was cold and affected sales. I would invite them back to
next year's festival if they are interested.
Bonfire
The temperature was considerably cold making the bonfire a hot destination at
this year's event. I recommend keeping this feature for next year's event.
S'more CookoutlBait Sale
The Chanhassen Boy Scouts sold s'more kits and bait again at this year's festival.
They were extremely successful in the selling of both of these items. I would
recommend inviting them back to next year's festival.
Skating Rink
With the temperatures being low we were able to construct a usable skating rink
at this year's event. The rink was used moderately but it allowed for an alternate
activity within in view of the fishing contest area. I recommend having this
feature at next year's event, weather permitting.
Sliding Hill
The sliding hill was not utilized much this year due to poor snow conditions. It is
a great activity to have in addition to the fishing contest, weather permitting. I
would recommend that the sliding hill be incorporated into next year's February
Festival.
Medallion Hunt
The Friends of the Library developed the clues for this year's medallion hunt.
The clues were given out the week leading up to Feb Fest. I would recommend
that we continue the Medallion Hunt in the same capacity next year as it gets the
community more involved. A statement should also be made warning the public
not to destroy areas of the city when looking for the medallion. We had a group
of participants chip away the hockey rink redline at North Lotus Lake.
The City of Chanhassen . A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a charming downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautiful parks. A great place to live, work, and play.

Ice Fishing Contest
A total of 1,061 tickets were sold for the contest-162 tickets were sold through
advance sales and 899 were sold the day of the event. Ticket sales were the same
as 2005. The contest went smoothly and there were roughly 40-50 fish caught!
General Comments/Suggestions
> We labeled the door prizes on the master list with a number that
corresponds with the prize (#1, #2, etc.). This made it easier for prize
board volunteers to disperse prizes.
> Continue announcing door prize winners by both their name and by their
ticket number. A lot of people don't pay attention to their ticket number.
This helps alleviate all the congestion in front of the prize board after the
contest.
> Continue putting a black mark on the back of each winning door-prize
ticket. This makes it a lot easier to find any unclaimed winners.
> A strong push for contributing sponsor's for the city's special events
programs resulted in a $1,100 positive difference between last year's and
this year's expenses.
> A press conference was held on Tuesday, January 31, to announce if
February Festival was going to be held this year due to weather
conditions. Channel 9 news and the Chanhassen Villager were in
attendance with Channel 11 doing a helicopter fly-by.
> Fewer porta-potties should be ordered for next year's event.
> Due to the poor sledding hill conditions participants made a secondary
sledding hill through the trees that was roped off by staff upon discovery.
