Dave Huffman Memorial 5K Race
The seventh annual Dave Huffman Memorial 5K Race is rapidly approaching. The
Race Committee has been very busy planning every detail. Race information will
be distributed with flyers, newspaper ads, and articles on the city's web page and
raceberryjam.com. Our goal this year is to have 400+ runners.
I have had conversations with Mike Wegler, Street Superintendent and Sgt. Ross
Gullickson with the Carver County Sheriff's office. We are going through all the
safety details as they relate to the race route, street closures, cone and sign
replacement, etc.
The course was re-certified on August 8 because the race route will not be running
across the grass in City Center Park. Instead we will start on Kerber Blvd. and head
south to West 78th Street. Each participant will receive a long sleeve t-shirt and a
goody bag filled with local business coupons and trinkets.
This year's race will again feature the Kid's Fun Run. The kid's race start time was
moved up to 9:45 a.m. in order to help the flow of the event. The kid's run is free
and each participant will receive a medal and a goody bag. Our goal is to have 100+
kids participate.
There is still much to do. I would like to acknowledge the members of the Race
Committee for their contributions and for sharing the workload. I look forward to
providing another quality community event for the residents of Chanhassen and
surrounding communities.
