Senior Center Activities Update
Participation in all of the events and programs at the Senior Center this fall has
been great! Regular activities and special events continue to fill and to draw new
participants.
The Fall Lunch Box Specials have been a very well attended. Each month a
different meal, speaker and topic were featured, i.e. Governor Al Quie, a speaker
on Amelia Earhart and JFK. The quarterly technology classes have been very
educational and successful. The Gadgets class, which was presented in November
by Best Buy, had 20+ people in attendance. The annual fall Senior Commission
Continental Breakfast and Open House featured local transportation providers and
had a huge crowd. The Senior Center participated in the Fall Friends of the
Library Book Sale where we displayed our varied activities and sold our recycled
greeting cards and gift bags.
The annual Holiday Party this year was held at the American Legion where a
catered lunch was served with entertainment provided by a renowned Accordion
player and musician and was attended by 82 people. The Community Bank
Chanhassen co-sponsored this event ($600.00) which helped reduced the cost. of
the party for the participants. Bill Traxler (President) and staff were in attendance
and were thanked for their support.
Several new programs and classes are being offered and attendance has been
wonderful.
.:. 1: 1 Computer Tutoring continues to add new participants. This program,
which started in July 2005, has trained 46 people on basic computer operation.
.:. Monthly Fall Lunch Box Specials.
.:. Gadgets Technology class.
.:. Women's Beading class.
.:. Medicare Part D Presentations. Two were offered this fall informing seniors
about the changes in the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Coverage.
Additionally, monthly one-on-one health insurance counseling is offered.
The City of Chanhassen . A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a charming downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautiful parks. A great place to live, work, and play.

I am busy planning the Senior Center's 15-year anniversary celebration and the new Augsburg
College of the Third Age classes for 2007. Klein Bank Chanhassen will be contributing $1,000
to sponsor these classes.
As you can see, the Senior Center is a busy place. On many days there are 2-3 activities taking
place, utilizing the new space, old space and sometimes the Fountain Conference room.
Regularly, I receive comments on how nice the Senior Center is. Thanks to the City and it's
residents for allowing us to have such beautiful and accommodating environment.
