FROM:
Dale Gregory, Park Superintendent

Park & Trail Report
All park buildings have been shut down and winterized. The piers, docks, and
buoys have been removed from the lakes.
Completed or nearly completed summer projects:
. Lake Susan Park
The parking lot expansion is finished. The trails have all been black
topped and sod and seed have been installed.
. Curry Farms
The trail going up the hill to Teton Lane has been rebuilt and black topped
and an additional trail to Knob Hill has been added. We have added fill to
some low areas in the park and regraded and seeded the west side of the
park. The sod was placed around the play structure area along with 12
new trees.
. Bandimere Heights
The old play structure was removed and replaced with a basketball C0urt.
. Bluff Creek
Hockey rinks have been completely milled and black topped.
. Lake Ann
The road resurfacing is nearing completion. There is some seeding and
mulching along the road to still be completed.
We have also worked on two trails, one at the Holiday Inn Express and the other
at the Bluff Creek underpass where we had water draining over the trails. We
tiled and redirected the water away from the trails.
Happy Holidays to all of you from the Park Maintenance Staff.
The City of Chanhassen . A growing community with clean lakes, quality schools, a charming downtown, thriving businesses, winding trails, and beautiful parks. A great place to live, work, and play.

expected, there are ongoing issues between the District and the City which are
being dealt with as they come up. The consensus seemed to be that the Joint
Powers Agreement between the District and the City has been working well and
will continue to provide direction for the two entities as we move forward.
2006 in Review
2006 has been a challenging year for the Recreation Center. We have done a
good job of containing costs and should finish the year well within budget on the
expense side. However, revenues at the Recreation Center will fall well short of
budgeted numbers for 2006. Our Personal Training program has produced no
revenue for 2006. The number of people using the Fitness Room and attending
Group Fitness classes is down significantly. These trends are largely due to the
fact that 2006 was the first full year of operation at Lifetime Fitness here in
Chanhassen. There are other fitness venues which have opened or expanded
recently in our community, which further suppress business at the Recreation
Center. The Recreation Center is currently poorly positioned to compete with
these newer and larger fitness venues. We have begun to explore the possibility
of adding new fitness programs and ways of generating more revenue through
the Fitness Room. I will be actively seeking ideas and suggestions on how to
enhance fitness programming at the Recreation Center. I encourage the Park
and Recreation Commission to offer any thoughts they may have on how to
build traffic and revenue in 2007 while making the Recreation Center an even
more valuable asset for our community.
