1974-08-15 minutes Bicentennial Commission August 15, 1974 Chanhassen City Hall `... A meeting of the Bicentennial Commission was called to order at 7 :30 p.m. on August 15, 1974 at City Hall. The following members were present: Richard Lyman, Mariana Shuistad, Wait Hobbs and Jack kreger, representing the Fire Dept. Harold Lund was absent. Also present were Deanne Nelson representing Carver Beach and Mrs. Jan CJhr representing the Minnewashta School District. The meeting was open to the public for any discussion regarding Chanhassen's Bicentennial program. After discussion, the following program was formulated: I. Heritage e76, A. Restore Original Village Hall on original site 1 Construct Vest Pocket Park around the Village Hall. 2, Uses for Reconstructed Village Hall a. Public Meetings b. Archives for Village and Township Records c Headquarters for Chamber of Commerce and Historical Society B. Develop Program of Open forums for the public Concentrating on' the Revolution and Constitution C. Investigate and attempt to secure Township Hall for Minnesota Valley Restoration Project. D, Catalogue Historic Cemeteries in Chanhassen for Historical Society. II, Festival °76: A. Approach the Chanhassen Dinner Theatre about presenting a Historical play (i.e. "1776") with opening night benefits as a fund raiser for other bicenternikl events B. Have a city wide picnic dedicating the Restored Village Hall incorporating a program of suitable entertainment. C. Symbolic tree planting ceremony for beautification portion of the Horizon '76 program. III. Horizon '76: A. City wide tree planting beginning in the fall of 1975. These would be for both private and public lands with trees being sold and distributed by a local service group. B. Vest pocket park around restored Village Hall. Page 2 C. Removal of old and abandoned buildings. D . Removal of junk cars. E. Designation of Chanhassen Recycling Project as a Bicentennial Activity. Encouraging service groups to work the project donating funds to the Bicentennial. F. Construction of a city tot lot and/or public skating rink as permanent recreation facilities. G. Designate nature interpretive area adjacent to Minnetonka West Jr. High as a Bicentennial project in conjunction with the Minnetonka School District. A motion was made by Mariana Shuistad and seconded by Rich Lyman to approve the above program for Chanhassen°s Bicentennial. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 p.m. with the next meeting to be announced. Representatives of Chanhassen Civic Organizations and interested individuals have been invited. All members are urged to be present.
