1976-09-16 minutes Bicentennial Commission September 16, 1976 Chanhassen City Hall The special meeting of the Bicentennial Commission was called to order by co-chairperson Myrna Kurvers on September 9, 1976 at 7:05 PM. The following members were present: Walter Hobbs, Myrna Kurvers, Martin Jones, Lyle Ricklefs, and Dick Dutcher. Fr. Armand Lubanski and Rich Lyman were absent. Minutes: The minutes of September 9, 1976 were amended to include the words ". . .at least. . ." between the words "line" and "30" (feet) of the motion related to the suggested village hall green area boundaries. A motion was then made by Martin Jones and seconded by Lyle Ricklefs to approve the September 9, 1976 minutes as amended. Motion carried. Village Hall: Restoration progress was reviewed. It was noted that 3/4 of the roof had been reshingled, holes in the interior walls filled, surface-mounted wiring removed and the exterior prime painted. Several members recounted that their efforts to locate the missing bell had met with no success. A motion was made by Martin Jones and seconded by Dick Dutcher to notify the Carver County Sheriff of the missing bell and contact the Carver County Herald to ask that the newspaper publicize the fact that the bell had been removed from the old village hall and its whereabouts was unknown. Motion carried. A motion was made by Dick Dutcher and seconded by Martin Jones to authorize ordering the mechanical work portion of the restoration, provided the cost does not exceed the amount budgeted for such work in the grant application to the state. Motion carried. Myrna Kurvers agreed to ask a local heating firm to look at the hall to make recommendations as to type and size of heating plant. The question was raised by Myrna Kurvers as to whether a restroom would have to be constructed. Walt Hobbs agreed to check with the City Administration on this. It was noted that a volunteer work party would meet the following Saturday at 8:00 AM to complete shingling the roof. Previous work parties on 8/21, 8/28 and 9/11 had brought the work to its present state of completion. -2- The Commission discussed the need for restoration work to proceed expeditiously, since winter will soon be upon us. Village Hall Dedication: Friday, October 15, 1976 at 6:00 PM was set as the date for a dedication ceremony (Secretary's note: Re-dedication?) Following is the tentative program. Item Time Frame 1. Benediction: St. Huberts, Church of 5 minutes the Living Christ 2. Opening Remarks: Walt Hobbs, Commission 3 minutes Chairman 3. Speeches: Mayor Al Klinglehutz 15 minutes Senator Bob Schmitz 10 minutes 4. Bicentennial Quilt Raffle 5 minutes 5. Programs: Chanhassen Elementary 10-15 minutes St. Huberts 10-15 minutes 6. Music: Chanhassen Elementary Band & Choir 15-20 minutes 7. Village Hall open for inspection Myrna Kurvers will be the dedication program chairperson. Lyle Ricklef agreed towork with Chanhassen Elementary and Church of the Living Christ on their part of the program, and Myrna with Schmitz, St. Huberts and the Quilt Raffle. Walt will contact the Mayor. Special Meeting: Another special meeting will be held Wednesday, September 29, 1976 at 7:00 PM, Chanhassen City Hall. The following will serve as a tentative agenda for that meeting: 1. Review restoration progress to date. 2. Discuss city council's action on parking lot project and hall green area. 3.
